Official Pumper!

Well it is official! Conor is now considered an official pumper. We got connected on February 23, 2009. There are many pumps to choose from, but we opted for the OmniPod and so far so good. We chose this particular brand because it doesn't have any tubing and the pump and blood checker are in one unit. We still need to count carbs and check blood and a lot of the other gunky things that goes along with being a diabetic, but the great thing about the pump is no more shots!!!!!! NO MORE SHOTS!!!!
We change out the pod every 3 days and this will gives him a nasty poke, but we think one poke is a good trade for the 20 to 30 shots he would other wise get in that time span. (The pod is the small portion you see on his upper arm.) He can wear the pod on several different places on his body. As of this week he prefers it on his upper butt.
The first week or so was rough, but Conor rarely even notices it now, and I am loving not having to draw up shots and break out the calculator for carb ratio's etc... Isn't technology awesome? We just hope and pray that one day they will come up with a cure, but for now we will take the pump and wait for our insurance to pay for the Real Time Continuous Glucose Monitor.
