Day 4 we decided to explore the sea life at Netarts bay. The tide was right so we headed out to see what kind of critters we could find. I must say the boys were not disappointed. Crabs, crabs and more crabs. Once the boys finally got brave enough to grab the little guys they couldn't get enough. You could walk out on to the rocks and hear the bajillion little guys scurrying around. Every rock you turned over was a new surprise. The fun part was to see the range of sizes. I think this might have been Conor's favorite low tide exploration. We finally had to drag him and Kevin away. There are no pictures of Josie with the crabs because apparently her affinity for squirmy things expands to crabs as well. Lincoln didn't mind them.

Conor and Kevin the crab hunters. Kevin would grab them and then hand them off to whoever wanted to hold one |

Lincoln was happy to finally get his turn |

Showing off the pincers -you can see behind Conor the low tide and terrain that the crabs were in |

After finally talking Conor into leaving the crabs behind we pulled up camp and headed south to our next destination. South Beach state park, located just south of Newport. We lucked out on this campsite. It was just about the closest campsite you could get to the trail head that led down to the beach. What a beautiful, quite, deserted beach. I can't get over how many miles of beautiful beach is on the Oregon coast and so few people are out enjoying them. As soon as we were settled in we headed to the ocean. We broke out the old trick kite that has seen little use Now we are glad we have stored it all these years-so much fun, everyone had a blast with it. We liked it so much that we even ended up buying another one so we wouldn't fight over who got to fly it.

Conor and Kevin flying the kite-they both got really good at it |

I liked this shot of Conor flying the kite-because it shows him getting a serious workout to keep it in the air and to keep his feet on the ground. A few gusts of winds had him digging his heels in the sand to help keep him on the ground. |
